February 2016: Wrap-Up

Yardage Totals 2016:
 January: 728yds
February: 1,062yds
March:
April:
May:
June:
July:
August:
September:
October:
November:
December:
2015 Totals: 1,790yds or 1.02 miles

Well! February certainly turned out better on the yardage front than January had. It may be short, but February’s effort was mighty. The Rainbow-along definitely helped keep me motivated this month, contributing  a finished pair of lined mittens, a tall pair of socks, and even a new squishy skein of handspun to all I managed to get done. And let’s be honest: my husband’s being away at training and going into maintenance mode helped too.  I am not above turning to convenience foods, minimal cleaning, and crafty calm to keep my sanity intact. It’s hard being the caretaker of two kids and two dogs solo–even more so when one is highly introverted! It’s LOUD here all of the time. There’s constant movement. And none of them appreciate the quiet calm that I need large amounts of in order to think clearly and function. A lot of time I would have spent otherwise engaged I chose to knit and craft while catching up with friends and favorite podcasters instead. Also finished this month: a beautiful Starfighter Slouch hat for ESK‘s February KAL, a portion of the next block on my daughter’s blanket, and two swatches. I absolutely hate swatching, so that’s pretty big for me to have knit a couple.

While I have until 30 April, 2016 to finish my first Bins, I still have a few knitting projects to knock out and 4 braids of fiber to spin. March is going to be spent knitting a large project in the Knitting Bin, and I hope to finish my current spin-which has chosen to be very fine and wants to be a chain-plied fingering-ish weight yarn-as well as another this month. That would leave me with some small projects and just a little spinning to square away in April.

I’m ahead of schedule for my 2016 goal to meet 5 miles or 8,800yds of knitted yarn in the course of the year. If you made any goals, how are you doing? Are you using any helpful tricks to keep yourself on task? My notebook idea has been working beautifully and making these tally posts much easier to throw together. I suspect that when I do my end of the year project tally, it will be a breeze!
