April 2016: Wrap-Up

Yardage Totals 2016:
 January: 728yds
February: 1,062yds
March: 1,042yds
April: 706yds
May:
June:
July:
August:
September:
October:
November:
December:
2015 Totals: 3,538yds or 2.01 miles

It’s been another month, kittens, and while I didn’t quite make my monthly goal of 734yds, I did get close enough to not be bothered by this fact. My average monthly yardage knit is still well-above that goal–884yds, to be exact–so as long as my productivity doesn’t nose dive, I should meet my yearly goal of 5 miles quite easily. April was a bit of a difficult month for me: many things went wrong, and I lost my knitting mojo for days at a time. Considering I didn’t knit at all for 7-10 days of the month, I think my output was great!

I was very monogamous again as I focused on finishing up my spinning and knitting bins. In that time, I finished a long-term sweater project for myself, knit a couple rounds on Lamby’s sample sock (and frogged even more due to a stupid mistake, but alas! I can not track that yardage) and knit almost a full pair of anklets; all I have left to knit on them is the heel and about 1.5″ of a leg, and they’re finished! The start of my second set of bins has me quite excited, and I’m already trying to decide which yummy handspun project I want to knit first. Will it be more husband socks? Socks for myself? Another sweater? A shawl? I guess we’ll see what May has in store for me!

Was April good to you? Did you get some projects finished and out of stash, or were you more interested in being outside and basking in spring?

FOs:
Wolf River by Melissa Schaschwary ($6 on Ravelry) There are too many modifications to list on the blog. If you want to see what I changed and resources I used, please check out my project page! I would definitely like to knit this sweater again in another color, but I might want to change up the structure and style of the sweater.

WiPs:
♥ “Ugly Socks” a.k.a. O3 of O8 for myself in 2016. This yarn was gifted to me by a very kind friend, but sadly, it’s not my cuppa with the pooling. I plan to make these anklets for wearing when I want to wear handknit socks that I’m not too worried about. I’m still undecided if I will let the tops roll a la Rose City Rollers or if I would rather there be a thin layer of ribbing to hold them up.

♥ After, I showed off the next Bin I will be knitting through in May-August. It’s mostly handspun, but I do have one skein of Hello Yarn Targhee Sock tucked away in there to work on.
♥ I’m still undecided what I want to do with that Gorgeous handspun sweater quantity, but right now I’m leaning towards either a Blank Canvas pullover, or a Contented Cardi, or…maybe a hybrid of the two.

Stashdown 2016: Q1

2016Stashdown

(Clicking the photo will take you to a larger, easier to read version.)

So. The first quarter of 2016 has already come and gone: where is the time going, kittens?! It seems like just yesterday it was Christmas, and here we are: 01 April.

First Quarter can not be said to be very successful at first glance; I’m red in both the fiber and yarn categories. The numbers are promising, though! I noticed with my fiber increase, despite the fact I’m in the red, I brought in almost 30 fewer ounces of fiber than the same time last year (This is ~7 braids of fiber, as a frame of reference). I also spun less, but this shows a decrease in buying–which is what this exercise is really about. I will take any positives I can find here! Most of my fiber purchases were large ones, which meant less buying overall and plans for bigger projects. I’d call that good, wouldn’t you? I also had an increase in my yarn stash of just over 1800 yards. That might not sound like a win at first, but when you take into account that one of my purchases was an 1800yd sweater quantity, it gives some reference to how well I did in knitting up at least what I was bringing in. Had I forgone the SQ, my stash increase would have been a paltry 53 yards. I was very close to stash neutral with this level of buying and knitting I’ve been doing. This is *huge* without destashing involved, so I’m rather chuffed about it. I’m really hopeful that Q2 is going to be an overwhelming success across the board! How can it not be if I keep things going at this pace?
