June + July 2021: Wrap-Up
Yardage Totals 2021:
Whoops. It was several days into July before I realized I had failed to document my yardage knit for the previous month, and I had been working like a fiend that entire time.
So.
This month, it’s a two month tally.
We all have pandemic brain. That’s the story I’m sticking to. It was strange to realize I had forgotten to do something I’ve been in the habit of for over a decade. But I suppose there’s a first time for everything.
June and July were very productive knitting months, even with Tour de Fleece during that time.
I finished one sweater:

And would have finished a second….had I not run out of yarn:

Cue that sad trombone. I was actually much farther along than this, but this is the last WIP photo I took of it. All I have left to do is 4 sets of shoulder short rows on the back, then seaming the fronts and back together, and then 2 short ribbed “sleeves.” So. Stinkin’. Close.
While I wait on the yarn to finish this sweater—as luck would have it, it’s a discontinued color to boot—I cast on a pair of socks for my husband in the last handspun I made for him back in January 2019. I haven’t made much progress on those yet, so I will save them for August’s wrap-up.
My only knitting goal for 2021 is to knit something every month: I abso-freakin’-lutely knit in both June and July. I had two very productive months which felt amazing. It’s the hottest it’s been since moving here in 2019, but we’re managing to keep the apartment just cool enough that handling wool isn’t off-putting. I’ve really enjoyed knitting sweaters and spinning up new yarn despite it. I’ve switched over to audiobooks to help keep me moving along on both.
And I have plans for my next couple cast ons. We’ll see how it all goes.
What about you, kitten? Are you making anything right now? Did you spin for the Tour? Maybe you’re reading something interesting? I’d love to hear what you’re up to.
Take care of yourselves and each other.
XO,
Amanda

May 2021: Wrap-Up
Yardage Totals 2021:
May has proven to be another productive crafting month, though my urge to read and the increasing number of days where the weather is uncomfortable and sticky signal the season for knitting is almost over. Without central AC here, I’ve found that my crafting follows the calendar in an effort to not be more grumpy about things I’m unable to control. Thankfully, it’s been very chilly and rainy here all month, so I was able to keep going longer than I expected. This month, I knocked out another fingering weight sweater, started a sport weight cardigan, and I knit two pairs of socks. Not bad.

My toe-up sock recipe

My only knitting goal for 2021 is to knit something every month: Another check mark for May. I had another pretty productive month, which feels good. It’s been a very long time since I knit socks apart from my advent pair. I know with summer’s heat all-too-near, I will be switching my crafting over to something else for a couple of months—spinning with the Tour and likely cross stitch—before I return to my needles. I’ll have to take advantage while the urge to knit is still here.
What about you, kitten? Are you making anything right now? Maybe you’re reading something interesting? I’d love to hear what you’re up to.
Take care of yourselves and each other.

Amanda

I’m trying something a bit different with stash tracking in 2021. With how slow I was to work anything out of stash last year, I decided it was time to report in a little less often, so I will be making trimesterly updates rather than quarterly ones. It’s one fewer update a year, basically, but I think it will help keep things fresh for me and for you.
T1 2021 was kind of a wash. Yarnwise, it looks amazing, thanks to getting a nearly 4 year old WIP finished. Scrap yarn blankets are no joke, kittens. They eat yardage. I’m having a hard time not feeling like it’s cheating somehow, since only a small amount of that yarn came out of the stash that is with me, so nothing has really changed but a number. Fiberwise? Oof. I’m currently in a stashing cycle with fiber. As the Tour visits us in the summer, my desire to spin usually accompanies it, so some of that will get spun back out—though there’s another massive quantity of fiber on its way to me as you read this. 2021 is not going to be the year of fiber stash reduction. I’ve made peace with that.
T1 was full of lightweight, oversized boxy tops in various fibers, which I’m looking forward to wearing more in the late fall when things cool down here again. Or maybe the odd chilly day we have left this spring. Summer in South Korea is long and no joke.
How have the first months of 2021 been treating you? Are you getting some crafting done? Staying healthy? Getting your shots, keeping your masks on, hand clean, and social distancing?
Take care and stay healthy, kittens.

Amanda
April 2021: Wrap-Up
Yardage Totals 2021:
Yowza! It’s been another Month for getting knitting done at my place. I managed to finish the fingering weight sweater I cast on last month:

AND!
I finished a long-term knitting WIP, almost 4 years to the day I started it:

A lot of yardage knit, and a lot of yardage out. It feels good to finally have a partials/scrap blanket finished and ready to use.
My only knitting goal for 2021 is to knit something every month: Check check! I had another very productive month, knitting-wise. I cleared just over a mile’s worth of yarn this month alone. I know it won’t last, but I’m enjoying it while the desire is here.
What about you, kitten? Are you making anything right now? Maybe you’re reading something interesting? I’d love to hear what you’re up to.
Take care of yourselves and each other.
